Anderson family – notes ML wrote down from Sis (at SK’s one Christmas)
Grandma & Grandpa and Anna & husband (Carl Voss ?) 1898

Carl and Agda knew each other since childhood

Augusta – her name or not?  Yes, her name is Augusta

Pomeroy or Pocahontis - Pomeroy - verified on the Immigration Manifest - the Final Destination for
Carl is Pomeroy, Iowa

Grandma – live-in housekeeper (all immigrants did learn language over a few years) – wanted to be American and
wanted to speak English

School – 8th grade – Norbolt?

Grandpa lived in FD worked as a contractor for a big company; eventually on his own
In Sweden – worked in an organ factory?

Anna & husband went back

Figure a house – with only 1 stick left over

Sis ordered all his lumber

Grandma – seamstress

Aunt Alma (Peschu?) (grandpa’s sister) lived in San Francisco

Told you – Carl Alan Frederick – “If a twin died, he was your guardian angel for the rest of your life”

Married at Covenant Church – by the river (Announcement in The Evening Messenger Wednesday,
October 8, 1902 - marriage license issued to Carl W. Anderson and Agnes Hall, both of Fort Dodge)

Then First Evangelical Lutheran – their church on Ave C

Sis – named after princess in Sweden named Astrid

Alan lived 19 mo – measles & pneumonia – died – called Sister & Brother
He was baptized a day or so of his death

Betty Malm has a picture of Sis, Alan & Eva

Children were baptized at “ladies aids” at people’s houses

Their parents were farmers in Sweden – Dahlsland – Mellerude

Another of Grandpa’s sisters lived in Philadelphia

Dad’s brother – Karl – called Charles in Sweden

Betty would have any old letters

Grandma was a wonderful cook – known for Sat AM hot buns & put brown sugar on bread – long coffee cake with
frosting & nuts – she took to people

All the time – pepperkakor, white sugar cookies, ice box cookies, fatti man – drop in hot grease

Ernie always walked in and went right to the door frame to scratch his back.  He would stop often but they never
knew when he was coming.

Evelyn Chalberg always knew when Dad (Ernie) was on his way home from fishing in the morning as he would
always toot his horn.

Telephone call 4-25-10 with CJ & Vivian

The whole family had to eat together once a day.

Every Saturday night Grandpa would ride uptown on the jitney and come home with a big bag of candy.

Signe liked to look at herself in the mirror so much that Grandma covered up the mirror.

Grandma had a good friend Ruth who came over once a week from Webster City.

They also went to a chapel as well as Bethlehem Lutheran Church at 1st Ave N & llth St.

Sis's name is Agda Astrid Isabella.  I assume they dropped the Agda since that was grandma's name and called her
Astrid which was shortened to Sis at some point.  I do remember mom saying Sis was short for sister but I don't
know when they started calling her that.

Janie, I am sure you haven't noticed but your mom's obituary says she was born August 8th, 1915.  From all the
records that I have, she was born on August 10th, which you can probably confirm.  ML

About Bob's family:  I haven't seen them since I was a young teenager, or maybe younger.  I don't know any of
those names you mentioned at all.  The girls I knew were Robbie and …Joanne, I think? but am not sure.  Their
mother was Beverly.  I THINK they lived in Alameda, CA.   He was in a wheelchair throughout my childhood.  The
chair was always a little scary to me, but I also remember that he was always smiling, and always seemed
overjoyed to see us all when we were together, nearly always at Marian's.  Wow, that is something I have not
thought of in decades! I bet Jimmy knows more.
